Kolka cares for The Black-necked Cranes (Grus Nigricolis) of Ladakh.
For centuries, cranes have evoked strong emotional responses in people. Known all over the world as a symbol of honour, loyalty, grace, justice, diligence, immortality, purity & love, today their survival is threatened.
The Black-necked Cranes (BNCs) are spread out across the entire southern Tibetan plateau including Ladakh in India. Lovingly called Jha tung tung, in Ladakhi, the BNCs are a vulnerable species due to the loss and degradation of their habitat. They are only known to breed in the Tibetan valley and India’s eastern Ladakh. Less than 25 cranes are known to migrate during the summer months of the year to breed in the Himalayan high altitude wetlands of Ladakh.
Kolka passionately supports the conservation projects of the Black-necked Cranes and its fragile habitat in Ladakh.
The International Crane Foundation (ICF) works worldwide to conserve cranes and the ecosystems, watersheds, and flyways on which they depend. ICF provides knowledge, leadership, and inspiration to engage people in resolving threats to cranes and their diverse landscapes. These efforts sustain the places where cranes live, to the benefit of countless other species.
ICF works in South East Asia in collaboration with the Mysore-based Nature Conservation Foundation.
1% from every sale at Kolka goes to the International Crane Foundation's "Cranes and Wetlands Programme" that strives to conserve the Black-necked Cranes and its habitat in Ladakh.
